Tra  Cu
Welcome to Tra Cu, South Vietnam. This was my first outpost after  Basecamp Cu Chi. Tra Cu was no more than a Navy base on a river   ( I believe it was the Oriental River ) due west of Cu Chi on the Cambodian border. It was located on  one of Sir Charles entrances to South Vietnam via the Ho Chi Minh Trail, quite active.
The Navy PBR's were being blown out of the water so they brought in the LRRP Rangers to set up ambushes and surprise Charlie. One tactic was  for the PBR to pull up to a spot on the river at night  and sit with engines idleing. What Charlie didn't know was that there was a ranger team deployed in front of the PBR locked and loaded. The engines idleing drew them in like rats to cheese. These type of actions were very intense  and  effective almost every time.
We had other duties as well. Such as perimeter defense when we were in basecamp. There was also a Special Forces unit on the other end  of the base that worked with the Cambodians. They could be very mean people. There were about six to eight PBR's and a few air boats on hand and a small contingent of Naval personel to man them. That would bring the total to fifty to sixty men on base when all were
present. Some of my most intense times were here.                                      Well on to the pics, just click on the links below and enjoy your stay.
